When the Non-Polarizing beamsplitter is mounted at 45 degrees with respect to a beam of blue-band light of 400-450nm range, it separates the beam into two orthogonal beams. The ratio of the power in the beams is determined by the coating. Typical ratios are R10:T90, R30:T70 and R50:T50.

Non-polarization beamsplitter (NPBS) plates are indispensable tools in photonics research, especially in applications where maintaining the original polarization of the light is crucial.
Interferometry: In applications like Michelson interferometers, an NPBS plate is used to split a single laser beam into two separate paths (a reference arm and a sample arm).
Quantum Optics and Entanglement Studies: In quantum optics, researchers often need to split a beam of single photons or entangled photon pairs.
Fluorescence Microscopy: In fluorescence imaging, a single light source is often used to both excite a sample and observe the resulting fluorescence. An NPBS plate can be used to direct the excitation light onto the sample while simultaneously transmitting the emitted fluorescence light to a detector.
